📢 Israel's Hasbara Apparatus

Israel operates one of the world's most extensive state propaganda systems — known as hasbara ("explanation"). Coordinated across government ministries, military spokespersons, and advocacy networks, it works to frame military actions as defensive, delegitimize Palestinian testimony, and dominate English-language media coverage.

A 2024 study by The Intercept documented systematic pro-Israel bias in major US media coverage of Gaza, finding that Israeli voices were quoted far more frequently than Palestinian ones and that Palestinian casualty figures were routinely framed with skepticism while Israeli claims were repeated uncritically.

🎙️ Journalist Killings

Gaza has become the deadliest place on earth for journalists. According to Committee to Protect Journalists data, at least 129 journalists and media workers were killed in 2025 — a record annual toll, with Israel responsible for roughly two-thirds of those deaths.

The International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) has described the killing of media workers in Gaza as the worst for journalists in modern history, with families of reporters among those targeted. Several killed journalists had received prior threats.

🚫 Narrative Control

Israel has banned foreign journalists from entering Gaza independently throughout the assault, forcing reliance on embedded or military-approved footage. The Foreign Press Association condemned the access ban as unprecedented.

Palestinian journalists — the only reporters able to document events on the ground — have been systematically targeted. Many were killed wearing clearly marked "PRESS" vests. Reporters Without Borders (RSF) has filed multiple complaints with the ICC alleging war crimes against journalists.

Accountability

US Complicity

The United States provides the military, diplomatic, and financial backing that makes the ongoing assault possible — and shields Israel from accountability at the United Nations.

💰 Military Aid

The United States has provided Israel with more than $174 billion in total military aid — more than to any other country. Under the current memorandum of understanding, Israel receives a baseline of $3.8 billion per year, supplemented by repeated emergency supplemental packages.

This aid flows with minimal human-rights conditioning, despite legal requirements (such as the Leahy Law) that are routinely waived or unenforced for Israeli units.

🛑 UN Vetoes

The US has cast dozens of vetoes in the UN Security Council to shield Israel from accountability — blocking resolutions on settlements, ceasefires, investigations, and Palestinian self-determination.

Most recently, in September 2025, the US vetoed a Security Council resolution demanding a ceasefire, drawing condemnation from the vast majority of the General Assembly and human rights groups worldwide.

💣 Weapons Sales

The US supplies the bombs dropped on densely populated civilian areas — including 500-lb and 2,000-lb MK-84 bombs, repeatedly documented in strikes on residential buildings, refugee camps, and "safe zones."

Multiple human rights organizations and UN experts have concluded that continued arms transfers make supplier states complicit in violations of international humanitarian law. International Court of Justice provisional measures ordered states to prevent acts under the Genocide Convention.
